Allentown to use software to pinpoint nuisance landlords | Lehigh Valley Regional News

Posted on 05/11/2022

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Irresponsible landlords were among the main topics discussed during Allentown’s Community and Economic Development budget review Wednesday.

Addressing the costly issues the city has been experiencing with problematic landlords, CED director Vicky Kistler announced that EnerGov software will be introduced to help the city utilize data to track nuisance landlords.

According to Councilwoman Candida Affa, inspectors frequently have to go back to the same properties to assess conditions.

“I did see in the budget, we do pay a lot for rentals when it’s red-tagged,” said Affa, “and I think they should be liable for that. It’s so important to the city to do something with these slumlords.”

Kistler said the new EnerGov software is expected to help the city tremendously because it will offer more comprehensive data combined with an easier way of pulling all that data together by landlord or property owner. That will enable the city to then address problems comprehensively.

“I’m really hoping that we’ll be coming back to change some ordinances as well as to change some fees once we really see what we’re facing,” Kistler stated.

She described the strategy as the “pitbull” the city needs to deal with irresponsible property owners.

Intel Software Defined Silicon Linux Driver Sees Latest “Intel On Demand” Updates

Posted on 05/11/2022
INTEL --

Going back to late last year Intel began working on a new Linux driver for “Software Defined Silicon” as a means of activating licensed hardware features akin to what they tried a decade ago with the “Intel Upgrade Service” for unlocking extra CPU features. The SDSi driver was merged in Linux 5.18 while this afternoon they sent out a rather sizable update to this controversial driver / hardware feature.

As I wrote back at the end of September, Software Defined Silicon is what Intel is now promoting as “Intel On Demand”. Indeed, with today’s patches to update the SDSi driver it has begun to adjust the naming from Software Defined Silicon to calling it Intel On Demand.

Intel confirmed at the Innovation event in September that their forthcoming Xeon Scalable 4th Gen “Sapphire Rapids” processors do feature this On Demand option. Intel also noted at the event that through this Intel On Demand activation model, additional accelerators can be enabled and other features. But the pricing and exact details have yet to be made public beyond noting it will be around AI / analytics / networking / storage.

With today’s Linux kernel patches that just hit the mailing list a

There’s a weird new Godzilla logo, and fans are confused

Posted on 04/11/2022

These days a movie’s early logo reveal feels almost as important as the subsequent trailer. It serves to raise excitement about an upcoming release while still maintaining some mystery around what the film will actually look like. Sometimes, the result can be rather… enigmatic. But then maybe that’s the point.

In the case of the new Godzilla logo, you would think the teaser was a Rorschach test judging by the interpretations of some fans and the variety of things that people are seeing in the scratchy design – from the Firefox logo to a beer brand and even a breasts. We don’t think this will make our pick of the best logos of all time, but it’s certainly got people talking.

We already knew that there were plans for a MonsterVerse Godzilla vs Kong sequel in 2024, but now Japan’s Toho Pictures (opens in new tab) has announced that it will be beating that Hollywood release with a new installation of its own. Its official Twitter account has posted an image of a new Godzilla logo together with the date November 3, 2023.

On the face of it, the logo is just
