How Spotify’s Wrapped campaign for 2022 came together

Posted on 06/01/2023

Today marks the day that 2022’s Wrapped launches worldwide. For this year, the overarching idea behind the campaign was “Self-expression and Play”. What was the thinking here? “Since the pandemic, we’ve all started to embrace much more individuality. No one knows what’s cool anymore, it’s so subjective now,” says Rasmus. “And we see that in how people are experiencing music and podcasts as well. You might listen to the friendliest pop music and then pivot to murder podcasts, or you listen to 90s emo rock in the gym and then go home and listen to jazz while you cook.”

So, from a design perspective, the brief that Rasmus and his team worked on was all about expressing this sense of multiplicity and plurality, while also injecting as much fun and interactivity into the campaign as possible. Seeing the visual identity for the first time, the first thing that jumps out at you is the introduction of overlapping and interlocking shapes. “It’s really based on these, what we call monograms,” says Bruno Borges, the design director at Spotify who was in charge of bringing this year’s Wrapped identity to life. “They’re really the heart of the campaign this year.” These monograms

Does the Mini feature the ultimate car design fail?

Posted on 06/01/2023

It’s one of the most iconic cars around, but it seems fans are still discovering design details about the humble Mini. Despite being owned by the German BMW since 2000, the Mini continues to celebrate its British heritage, not least when it comes to the taillights.

Redditors are only just noticing that the rear lights are designed to resemble a Union Jack. But while some are appreciating this nationalistic design touch, others are arguing that it is, quite literally, a glaring design fail. (But is it up there with the disastrous Kia logo?)

If you’ve ever driven behind a Mini at night, you may have wondered where the hell the driver is trying to go. That’s because although the left indicator might be illuminated, that half Union Jack creates the impression of a right arrow, resulting in a tad of cognitive dissonance – just what you want on a busy road.

“We drove by one the other day and it looks both ridiculous and is counter intuitive when blinking,” one Redditor complained, while another added, “Precisely what goes through my head when I’m behind one of these. It’s pointing the wrong way and it looks dumb. The Union Jack works

What monitor is best for graphic design?

Some tips and tricks for finding the best monitor for graphic design

Updated: Jan 5, 2023 11:00 am

Gaming Monitors

When choosing a monitor for graphic design, there are three important factors to consider: resolution, color accuracy, and size.

Resolution

Resolution refers to the number of pixels that make up the display. A higher resolution means that the monitor displays more detailed and crisp images. For graphic design, it is crucial to choose a monitor with a high resolution, as this will allow you to see more detail in your designs and ensure that they will look sharp and clear when printed or displayed on other devices.

Color accuracy

Color accuracy is also paramount for graphic design. A monitor with good color accuracy precisely reproduces the colors of your design. Many monitors come with color calibration tools or software that can help you adjust the color settings to achieve accurate color reproduction.

size

Size is imperative to consider when choosing a monitor for graphic design. Larger monitors can be helpful for tasks such as layout design or photo editing, as they provide more screen real estate and allow you to see more of your design at

Graphic Designer Suggests ‘Scream 6’ Poster Is Similar to His Art

Posted on 05/01/2023

A new poster for upcoming slasher ScreamVI features a subway-like map in the shape of Ghostface.

It’s a clever design that connects all the characters the fictional killer has murdered in the film series with each line distinguished by color.

Many fans love the new design — but was the idea stolen from another artist?

In a statement posted to social media, graphic designer Gil Marcel Cordeiro exposed the similarities between his design, which he shared back in early December 2022, and the official poster, which was released on Jan. 1, 2023.

“This January 1st, I received the surprising news that the studio responsible for marketing #ScreamVI had released a new teaser poster. Several users, on Twitter and Instagram who had already liked and shared my art, published on December 3rd, pointed out that, curiously, the poster released by Paramount has several similarities with my work,” he wrote on Instagram, noting the “concept and genesis of the piece” which took him roughly 40 hours to complete.

“I’m not saying here that there was (or that there wasn’t) plagiarism, it’s just a matter of verifying how much the two pieces are similar in several levels and aspects, which rules out the

Joshua Ash relished his role in creating the Flyers Throwback Thursday posters

Posted on 05/01/2023

Growing up in Chester County, Joshua Ash had a Drake’s Cake advertisement on his wall. It was a picture of the 1988 Flyers holding boxes of cakes and “clowning around.” At the time, the 13-year-old Flyers fan liked that it deviated from the typical serious team photo.

“It was different,” Ash said. “They’re tough on the ice, but here they are, letting their hair down and just being silly.”

Now 48 years old and a professional graphic designer, Ash is designing posters that may be hanging on a young Flyers fan’s wall. It’s a journey that’s come full circle, an idea that’s fascinating and surreal to Ash.

Ash has always doodled and sketched. In school, he was the kid who filled the margins of his notebooks. He “wasn’t an athletic kid by any stretch,” he said, but he loved all the Philadelphia teams. However, the Flyers had a special place in his heart.

Ash’s father, Richard, was a big hockey fan in the ’70s and ’80s, and the television usually was tuned to Flyers games. Bobby Clarke’s face and Gene Hart’s voice were familiar
