Lucid Air EV Learns New Tricks via Over-the-Air Software Update

Posted on 15/10/2022
  • The Lucid Air electric sedan adds new and revised content via a series of free over-the-air software updates that are now rolling out.
  • The new software is called Lucid UX 2.0 and introduces an instant-on feature, enhanced driver assists, reconfigured controls, and more.
  • Owners will be prompted when to download and install each OTA update; Lucid says the entire process will span the “next several weeks.”

Nowadays, many new vehicles allow over-the-air software updates, which are like gifts that keep on giving. Just when your car starts to feel stale—surprise!—a simple download can unlock new features and functionality. That type of fresh content is exactly what Lucid Air owners get with the latest OTA update called Lucid UX 2.0, which the company today announced is starting its initial rollout phase.

Porsche Taycan owners are getting range bump through software updates

Posted on 15/10/2022

Many Porsche Taycan owners are going to be happy to know that Porsche is making their vehicles more efficient through software updates resulting in range bumps.

As we reported back in July, the Porsche 2023 Taycan model year update was mostly focused on software improvements.

Several of these changes were related to the entertainment system in the electric vehicle, but there were also several software improvements to the powertrain and thermal management system that are making the 2023 Taycan more efficient.

Now the good news is that those software improvements are also coming to existing Taycan electric vehicles produced over the last three years.

The biggest range bump goes to the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, which now goes from 204 to 233 miles of range on a single charge – a 14% range increase through software improvements to the efficiency of the vehicle.

Most other range increases are between 3% and 7%, but there are a few other variants that are getting range increases of more than 10%.

Here’s a list of all the range bumps for all the different Taycan variants (via Drive Tesla Canada):

Hyundai to spend $12.6B on software-defined vehicles

Posted on 15/10/2022

TOKYO — Fast-moving Hyundai Motor Group says it will plow billions of dollars into developing software in a move to speed product development and boost revenue, including the creation of a new operating system for over-the-air updates in all Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles by 2025.

The sweeping initiative will usher in a wave of “software-defined vehicles” armed with technology that performs at “blazing speeds” and bolsters each car’s resale value, according to the automaker.

It will see the establishment of a Global Software Center, the introduction of a Level 3 autonomous driving system, and the launch of two new electric vehicle platforms from 2025, as the South Korean juggernaut jumps into the accelerating race to release “programmable cars.”

“Our holistic approach will empower Hyundai Motor Group to lead the transformation in the mobility paradigm,” Chung-Kook Park, president of the company’s R&D Division, said while announcing the massive investment Oct. 12. “Creating visionary vehicles empowered with the ability to evolve through software will enable customers to keep their vehicles up to date with the latest features and technology long after they have left the factory.”

Hyundai said it will invest 18 trillion won ($12.6 billion) through 2030 to develop and

Hyundai ‘Software Age’ to Bring 50% More EV Range, OTA Updates

Posted on 14/10/2022
  • Software-defined vehicles (SDVs) are cars that change important aspects of their performance based on new lines of code. With over-the-air updates, SDVs can adjust everything from infotainment to safety features to self-driving capabilities.
  • Hyundai will spend $12.6 billion by 2030 on what it is calling the upcoming Software Age for vehicles.
  • While some of today’s Hyundai Group vehicles can already be updated over cellular networks, the first vehicles that are part of this new Software Age will arrive in 2023.

Hyundai Motor Group will invest $12.6 billion by 2030 to make lines of code the most critical part of future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles. The automaker announced its road map for software-defined vehicles today and said it expects to have 20 million vehicles around the world be part of the Group’s Connected Car Services (CCS) by 2025. That’s also the year that all Hyundai Group models will be considered software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

Hyundai is calling its shift to get more SDVs on the road the “Software Age.” The technology—in which updatable code controls and changes a vehicle’s components, parameters, and features—will be used in electric and traditional gas-powered cars.
